Oduma Essan, a Nigerian singer residing in Ghana, recently reportedly sued Kuami Eugene for allegedly plagiarizing his song.
According to sources, the singer claims half ownership of Kuami Eugene’s smash song “Show Body,” which features Falz and is on the Son of Africa album, which was released on October 9.
Oduma Essan alleged in a lawsuit seen by MyNewsGh.com that he published his song with the identical title, ‘Show Body,’ on July 17, months before the Lynx Entertainment singer’s song was published.
The Ghana-based Nigerian singer noted that not only is the title of the song similar to his, but there are also certain technical similarities between the two tracks.
The musician, who is seeking Ghc120,000 in damages, informed the court that Kuami Eugene, among other things, plagiarised his title and used lyrics identical to his.
Oduma Essan revealed in his video that he wore lion-inspired clothing and dubbed himself the Lion of Africa. Meanwhile, Kuami Eugene, he continued, was dressed similarly and referred to himself as the Son of Africa.
Essan stated that Eugene’s ‘Show Body’ which was published without his consent, is “largely a reproduction and or duplication” of his original work.
The damage Oduma Essan is seeking, he stated, is coverage for video production, mixing, sound engineers, and promotion in both Ghana and Nigeria.
In a recent interview, the Ghana-based Nigerian musician stated that he feels it is past time for Kumai Eugene to be held accountable for appropriating the works of other musicians or content providers without permission.
He has no personal issues with the Lynx Entertainment prodigy but feels he enjoys taking the creations of others and claiming them as his own without acquiring the required proprietor’s consent.
Oduma Essan remarked in an exclusive interview with Doreen Avio of Joy FM that he has been watching Kuami Eugene for a long time and has seen that he is extremely interested in taking the works of others and embellishing them to make them unique.
“I have been in this country for a long time now. I know what is going on in the system. I have seen all the artists, but the way Kuami Eugene is doing his kind of music, that is not how it is done.
“Nobody does that. Which Ghanaian artiste has the same unwavering attitude as Kuami Eugene?!! This is the time to put a stop to this bullshit,” he said on Let’s Talk Showbiz. Watch the interview below
