The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih has expressed worry over the downward performance of WASSCE and BECE students despite government’s investment in the educational sector of the Region.
Compared to their counterparts in the country, the Minister said the performance of the students as poor, saying it was unacceptable.
He said this at the 5th Congregation of the NJA College of Education in Wa.
Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih indicated that although the Region did not have magnificent facilities in the secondary schools in the past, the students used to perform outstandingly, expressing the view that they should have performed better at a time government had intervened in their situation.
The Minister therefore appealled to the education authorities to up their game and reverse the downward trend in the performance of the students at all levels of education in the Upper West Region.
The Principal of Nusrat Jahan Ahmadiyya College of Education, Hajia Asma-u Ismail noted that the school recorded its first class in 2015 when she took over in 2014, touting it as a major achievement in the growth of the institution.
She admonished students to aspire higher as they go into the world of jobs.
The Deputy Director General, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) Dr. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai also urged unions and staff of Tertiary institutions to stop using strikes for their demands.
He rather advised them to go back to the drawing board for resolutions.
A total of 743 students made of 409 and 334 of 2019 and 2020 batches respectively graduated.
The school currently has a student population of 1,119; 564 level 100, 282 level 200 and 273 level 300 All studying Bachelor of education programme.
