Eidul-Fitr: Nat’l Chief Imam urges Muslims to hold Eid prayers in small groups

As part of measures to control the spread of the covid-19 virus, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Nuhu Sharabutu, has called on Muslims to hold the 2021 Eidul-Fitr Prayers in small congregations.

In a statement released on Friday May 7, National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Nuhu Sharabutu, reminded all Muslims and the general public that the National Covid-19 restrictions are still in place and that strict adherence is expected from all.

He noted that in order to adhere to the social distancing protocols, as laid down by government, the 2021 Eidul-Fitr Prayers and celebrations cannot be observed in large congregations at bigger squares and Parks as it used to be.

According to Sheikh Dr Nuhu Sharabutu, National, Regional and district Eid Prayers, will also not take place as usually observed.

“The Government of Ghana in consultation with His Eminence the National Chief Imam Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharabutu wish to remind the general public that the National Covid-19 restrictions are still in place , and strict adherence is expected from all,” the statement said.

“The National Chief Imam therefore wishes to remind all Muslims throughout the County that this year’s Eidul-Fitr Prayers and celebrations cannot be observed in large congregations at bigger squares and Parks, as it used to be.

“This therefore also means the national, Regional and district Eid Prayers, will not take place as usually observed.

“Muslims are therefore advised to hold their Eid Prayers at Jummah Mosques in our various communities and localities,” excerpts of the statement read.
