The Youth and Sports Ministry has paid two months salary arrears to Ghana coach CK Akonnor just before Christmas.
Akonnor had gone unpaid following his appointment of the Black Stars in January, replacing Kwesi Appiah on a two-year deal.
The Sports Ministry called for patience due to the delay in payment of the salary.
However, Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah, in an interview, also disclosed the gaffer will suffer pay cut due to the impact of the Covid-19.
“CK [Akonnor] has been paid two months. He received it before Christmas and would have another two months next week [in the new year]. That’s what we’ve been told by the Sports Ministry,” Henry Asante Twum, who is the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association [GFA] told Kumasi based Kessben FM.
“The Ministry had hoped to clear six months of the arrears but unfortunately it seems they were overstretched hence paying the two months for the time being,” he added.
CK Akonnor is reportedly on a $25,000-a-month salary as Black Stars coach.
He is assisted by David Duncan.
